OUT NOW: From overtourism to undertourism

From Overtourism to Undertourism is out now! In this edited volume geographers reflect on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on global tourism and consider what unknown futures may lay ahead.

By charting the relatively brief history of Airbnb, my chapter argues that whilst the pandemic has certainly presented new challenges for Airbnb, circumstances of uncertainty, precarity, and inequality have always already been central to the platform’s functioning since its establishment. The book has been edited by Valeria Pecorelli at IULM University in Milan, Italy, and is published by UNICOPLI.

A preprint of my chapter Capitalizing on Crises. Transformations in Airbnb from the Great Recession through the Covid-19 Pandemic is available here.
